Brief Description
Established in 1972, Docklow Pools is possibly the eldest commercial fishery in the UK.
Set in 110 acres of Herefordshire countryside, it boasts one of the finest coarse and carp fisheries in Britain today, also offering some idyllic fishing on the wonderful River Teme and River Wye.
The venue offers day ticket fishing and is also an angling holiday destination of some repute, with great adult-only and angler friendly accommodation and facilities including a tackle lock-up in all cottages, a bar all on site.
There’s also a tennis court, snooker room, TV room and nine hole pitch-and-putt golf course. Weekly residents-only matches are held. Additionally, Docklow boasts a wonderful restaurant, ‘The Fisherman’s Arms’, which claims to be one of the best in the Three Counties.
On site is a superb tackle shop which sells virtually everything you would need for your trip or back at home. The website is www.docklowtackle.com , or call 01568 760544 for information.
There are eight established pools at Docklow giving anglers a huge selection of fishing options.
There’s also a 108-peg Canal/Snake lake that varies from nine to 14 metres across, making it a pole angler’s dream. It’s stocked with barbel and chub as well as carp, tench, bream and rudd.
Docklow is a family-owned business and the fact that over 80% of its guests return is all you need to know about the service, the quality of fishing and accommodation, and the attention to detail at this perfect Herefordshire retreat.
In the last few months, Docklow has featured in Preston Innovations’ new catalogue, in the Improve Your Coarse Fishing show for OnlineFishing.tv and had Matt Hayes down filming as well.
The Lakes
Match Pool – Residents, Matches And Members Only
The Match Pool has 31 comfortable concrete pegs and is suited to pole, waggler, feeder or leger fishing. It is stocked with carp to an average of about 6-7lb with plenty in double figures, plus bream, rudd and perch. This pool boasts a five-hour match record of 246lb, set in February 2003. A record 350lb catch was caught in 2000 in a pleasure fishing session.
Moby Dick – Day Ticket Water
Originally the specimen lake at Docklow, it is beautifully set amid tree-lined banks, this is where you will catch Docklow’s big carp, although it also offers great winter silver fish sport with quality roach, as illustrated by Kevin Green in one of our episodes of our exclusive TV series, Improve Your Coarse Fishing (FREE TRAILER)
Offering 35 pegs with three islands, pole, waggler, feeder, leger will all score, as will floating bread. Stocked with carp to over 20lb, bream, chub, barbel, roach and rudd, it’s also a great pool for the inexperienced angler looking for bites.
Farmer Jack – Members, Residents Or Matches
A 60-peg pool of character that’s simply solid with fish and a water that produces lots of huge weights. Regarded as a pole or waggler water, there are lily pads extending out to the middle of the pool. Holds a mixed stock but be ready for carp running well into double figures.
Mickey Mouse – Day Ticket Water
Docklow’s original lake, dug in 1972. A lovely pool that is the favourite of many residents for its mixed stock of fish. Holds 40 comfortable pegs, each one a little bit different to the last. The carp are into double figures but it has a very mixed stock with fish of all sizes, and you never know what the next bite will bring! The name ‘Mickey Mouse’ is a give way in itself!
Figure Of Eight – Day Ticket Water
An extension of the Mickey Mouse, featuring numerous lilies. Stock comprises a real mixed bag with carp, tench, roach, rudd, bream, barbel, chub and crucians. All methods work well, especially pole and straight lead.
Major Bill – Residents And Double Rod Members Only
The biggest lake at seven acres, this is a beautiful 20-peg pool, with trees all the way round and an island in the middle. A log hut on the lakeside is available. For the bivvy boys among you there are catfish over 50lb to go at, plus mirrors, commons and grass carp to mid twenties and plenty of doubles. It’s not an easy lake but the rewards are there if you are prepared to put the time in. ‘Double Rod’ ticket holders and over-18s only.
The Snake – Members And Residents
The Canal or ‘Snake’ as it has become known is a pole angler’s paradise varying from 9-14 metres wide. It’s stocked with barbel, tench, chub, rudd, bream and carp. The 108 pegs twist and wind to create swims with unusual features.
The Stock Pond – Members And Residents
An established pond with trees all around that’s totally secluded and very picturesque. If you enjoy wildlife then this is a super option, watching kingfishers throughout the day. This is strictly a member/residents only pool with only float fishing permitted. It’s a ‘connoisseur's lake’ for the angler who enjoys being at one with nature. There are good tench in this pool together with roach, rudd, bream and of course carp that run to 20lb.

River Teme – Members And Residents
For a change of scenery residents and members of Docklow can fish two private stretches of the River Teme. These exclusive stretches offer over 1700 yards of fishing on one of the best parts of the river. A car park has been made very close to the river to minimise walking. The River Teme offers excellent fishing with consistent bags of barbel, chub, bream and grayling.
River Wye – Residents And Members
Docklow has also finalised the purchase of an exclusive 1,000 yard stretch of the renowned River Wye, to be available only to residents and members of Docklow Pools. The River Wye has a great variety of inhabitants including chub, roach, dace, bream, pike, salmon and trout. It is also rumoured that there is the odd quality perch and carp coming out of the stretch.
