Some very recent major research into angling participation might interest some of you - be warned tho - it's 70 pages long!!!

First I have heard of such a survey! Of all the forums & websites I visit on a daily basis, I was not aware of this being carried out.

I got down to page 28 before thinking that it is a massive waste of my time in reading it, as some of the responses are obvious lies by the participant or made up by the surveyers themselves. It seems awfully biased towards sea and game anglers IMHO and does not represent a true outlook of angling in the UK - especially with the age groups.

As you know GP, I have been around for more years than I wish to recall in angling, and the VAST majority of people I see on the bank (of all disciplines) are under 30 - not the upper age bands that this survey suggests.

I have also sent a few texts out to other anglers (both normal pleasure anglers and also some "names" within angling), and none of these were aware of this survey either.

Bolo-tics has crept into our hobby, just ignore it.Just get on the bank do what you do to make your trip what you want it to be.Of all the hobbies, pursuits or interests which can be got into surely angling must be left alone to carry on being a simple relaxation excersize.Just about all other leisure pastimes have been surveyed, regulated and f**ked up buy the over controlling society we live in today.
