I did get a bit bored with them this summer. It's about keeping your fishing varied I think, and at least with fishing there are endless possibillities. If you were into ping pong you might have more of an issue...(!!)

unfortunately I fish for a club that seems to be obsesssed with fishing these little ponds.

If i mention Canals to them they run a mile ...lol

Having said that they did go to Bluebell lakes on Sunday. 1 roach won the match

Personally,I`d forget the narrow sighted club you chose to support.I belong to Fakenham Angling club but this won`t stop me from roving to venues if the club venues don`t have the desired features. Perhaps do an online google type search for fishing venues in your area. By flowing water I mean fast moving rivers which hold Chub,Dace and perhaps Barbel.

    Thanks Wensum.

i do vary my fishing, I love to fish big waters for bream and tench on the feeder, also fishing for roach on the waggler.

in my books 10lb of roach is better than 100lb of carp.you cartainly have to work harder for them

Anyway my original question was about these boring featurless holes in the ground with pegs crammed in every 10 yards or so, where the fish all seem to have deformed mouths and sores on them.

where is the excitement in knowing that the next time your float goes under or tip goes round it's another carp.

d angler 1 yeh, totally agree with you there fishing has changed so much since we were younger the good old silver fish have taken a back seat, all my mates are supposed to be match anglers, every week sat on some puddle cramed with f1s and carp about 3 ft away from each other in there pegs,i dont call that match fishing, theres no skill in that.  fishing in each others swims yanking the fish in on poles that quick they have no lips left.fish always seem in bad condition.i still love the thrill of stick float fishing those natural rivers for whatever you catch, also cant beat tip fishing for bream and tench the old way, tight lines mate grom.

I know what your saying, although there are lots of commercial waters which are scenic and if your selective most venues hold other species rather than just Carp. I grew up fishing rivers and drains but now I'm older with a busy job and family I probably only get fishing 10 days a year, which means I want to go to a venue I know that I'm going to have a few fish - some people don't have the time to locate the isolated shoals of fish that are left in our rivers.

I really think you need to find a harder water. I.e. you mentioned Bluebell produced 1 roach for the winner! Sounds to me like your club is not pushing themselves fishing a runs water only? I fish a local estate lake of between 3-4 acres, its really hard fishing, especially this time of year. My syndicate rules do prevent fishing some of the nearer runs waters but this is mainly down to the sorry state of the fishery and any likeminded angler would avoid spoiling their equipment by fishing them anyway. I find the challenge on my little lake has given me more fun in fishing than I have ever had. I could easily travel anywhere between 6-10 miles and fish a runs water but I choose not to for this reason.

Good luck to you finding a more challenging venue or target a different species, i.e. river barbel (something I really want to try next season). If you really are fed up with carp puddles it may just put the smile back on your face. Me, I'm just glad to get out the house and enjoy the outdoors. If I have a rod in my hand, all the better :)
