Frequently Asked Questions

How do I watch the full programmes?

Trailers of all our programmes are free to view. To watch the full programmes you simply need to join the TV Channel. Click the ‘Join Now’ button anywhere on the site to register with the site and then join the channel for only £4.95 per month (six-month membership). On successful completion of the transaction you will be given immediate access to the programmes and you will be able to watch what you want, when you want. We will be adding new programmes every week. To browse through all the programmes we have available, click the TV Guide button (www.onlinefishing.tv/channel/lists) . You can sort our programmes by Genre by looking at the list on the left under the 'You Choose' heading.

What bandwidth do I need to play at High and Standard quality?

At Standard quality you need a minimum broadband bandwidth of 500kb/sec. Our video streaming server can detect your individual bandwidth and will stream you a choice of two qualities for each programme – Standard and High.

To enjoy the High quality option you need a minimum bandwidth of 1mb/sec (1000Kb/sec). Go to www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk to check your bandwidth and click on the 'click here to start test' button. It takes less than a minute and you are looking at the download speed reading.

Most broadband packages offer well above these speeds, but do not always deliver them. If you are getting a lower speed than you think you should be, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Here are some numbers of the popular ISPs.
BT: 0800 111 4567; Tiscali: 0871 222 3311; AOL: 0844 499 5555; Sky: 0844 241 0515; Virgin: 0845 454 1111; TalkTalk: 0870 087 8777; Demon: 0845 272 0040; 02: 0800 230 0202; Orange: 0905 050 5151; Pipex: 0871 663 3300; Post Office: 0845 600 3210; Zen: 0845 058 9009.

Do I need to download any software to play the programmes?

All of our videos are encoded using Adobe Flash software and you will need a Flash Player. This comes as a standard part of any web browser on a modern computer. However, we recommend that you use the most up to date version of Flash Player. This can be downloaded at (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer ).

I can't get the programmes to start playing?

If you have the required bandwidth, the prgrammes should start playing almost immediately on clicking the 'play' button. If you have to wait longer than a minute we suggest refreshing the page or clicking off the page and starting again.

Can I increase the volume?

If you have speakers there should be no problem with sound. If you are using your built-in speakers - especially on a laptop - some of the programmes may be a little quiet. You can increase your volume by clicking on 'Start' on your computer (bottom left), 'Control Panel', 'Sounds...', 'Adjust the System Volume' and then dragging the 'Device Volume' over to a higher setting. Alternatively, use headphones.

Can I set to always play at High quality and are there any downsides to this?

The player will remember the quality that your last video was streamed in and will continue at that quality until for that session only. The default quality is Standard. If you wish to always watch at High quality you can do this by changing your defaults in TV Settings, which you will find in My OnlineFishing. Most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) set a monthly limit to the amount of downloading you can do. Although the viewing experience should be better at High quality, be aware that you are using a lot more of your total download allowance from your ISP for the month.

Why does it sometimes freeze and then resume at a lower quality?

Our video server stream two different qualities at both Standard and High. It will try to play the highest quality your connection can handle, but if it detects that your bandwidth can’t cope it will pause the stream and switch to the lower quality.

Why is the picture quality better in the small player than at full screen?

Whilst the video playback quality may look good on the smaller player, when enlarged to full screen size the same information is magnified over a larger area and any image defects caused by the coding process are more easily seen.

Why are some of the programmes not filling the screen?

Some of our programmes are displayed with black borders down the sides. This is because the original programme was made before ‘widescreen’ became standard in the TV industry. Rather than try to fit these programmes into our standard player size, losing quality in the process, we felt it best to display these in their original format.

Why do some of the shows seem to be sharper than others?

In order to bring programmes from all angling disciplines from right around the world, we have sourced our acquired material from a wide variety of providers (with differing master tapes) and we have not been able to apply a universal quality standard. We feel it’s better to bring you these programmes in a slightly lower than ideal quality than not bring you them at all.

I can play the video, but I’ve got no sound. Help!

Some computers do come without any built-in speakers. If you have one of these you will either need to buy some separate speakers or you can use headphones. If you have had sound coming through your computer before, the volume is probably turned down.

The trailers play okay, but the videos appear to pause regularly…

Although you may have adequate bandwidth on your broadband connection, the smoothness of playback also depends on your computer’s ability to handle large files of video content. It can do this much more easily if you are not running any other applications on your computer whilst trying to watch the videos on the website.

I can’t play the videos at all?

Please check your broadband bandwidth. You can run a check at www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk . If you are experiencing a broadband speed below 500kb/sec, you may not be able to play at our Standard (Lowest) quality. The other reason could be that your computer doesn’t have Flash Player (see above).

Can I download the files to watch at my leisure…

The simple answer to this is no – copyright restrictions prevent this. However you can watch each programme when you like, as many times as you like on OnlineFishing.tv .
